1 DIRECTOR 50 POSTERS

2025

1 Director 50 Posters is an annual exhibition we founded, inviting designers to reinterpret a single director's body of work through poster design. The first edition launched in collaboration with the New York Film Festival Director Retrospective program, with David Lynch's films as its inaugural subject.

Behind that premise is a larger intention: to reposition the movie poster as an important form of visual culture — not just promotion, but interpretation. By placing designers at the center of a film-driven context, it opens a space where their way of seeing cinema becomes the primary lens for the audience.

To hold that multiplicity together, the visual identity is built around a single idea: a rectangular frame functioning simultaneously as poster, film screen, and modular unit — each a fragment within a larger system. Color is drawn directly from the recurring themes of Lynch's films — blue for dreams, memory, and blurred identity; red for control, violence, and constructed appearance. Their tension defines the exhibition's visual and curatorial tone.

The result is a full exhibition system spanning curatorial strategy, visual identity, spatial design, and campaign — coherent across every touchpoint.
